FV050 - Fiord - Validity EP

Celebrating Flow Vinyl´s 50th release, regular followers of Flow Vinyl will recognise the name Fiord straight away; the New Zealand duo of brothers Barton and Hayden Strom, have been an integral part of the label for several years releasing a series of fine tracks. They’re the perfect choice for the 50th release on Flow Vinyl, therefore, and the ‘Validity’ EP with vocals from Jessie is the guys at their very best.

This is vintage Fiord: a rolling, dubby groove, intricate musical skills, melancholy female vocals and a slightly spooky edge. There’s something unmistakable about a Fiord track, and as always, the quality of production is first rate allowing the emotional depth of the vocals to shine through. Not surprisingly, it creates the ideal template for the remixers to really show us what they can do.

Beckers of D-Nox & Beckers fame gives the original a techy, tripper feel replacing the icy undercurrent with a more percussive edge, perfect for tougher clubs. Re Dupre from São Paulo in Brazil, meanwhile, cranks up the funk another couple of gears with a bass-heavy, disco-tinged reworking. A real hip-swinger and all dancefloors are catered for with this superb set of tracks.
