After the trippy elegance and rolling groove of their last release by label stalwarts Fiord, Flow Vinyl turn to another of their leading lights, Kassey Voorn, for their next offering. The Athens-based DJ and producer has remixed some of the best names in the progressive house scene, including a superb reworking of Solead’s ‘Chicaboo’ for Flow, and released many excellent productions on a wide selection of labels. The time is right, therefore, for some new tracks for Flow, and he delivers them in style with a thrilling double-header in ‘Dance the Pain Away’ and ‘Revolver’. No remixes, just two killer dancefloor cuts that go straight for the jugular.
‘Dance the Pain Away’ does exactly what the title suggests. Building slowly through layers of percussion and a growling bassline, it’s simple but deadly, with a hint of breakbeat to the rhythm, especially when the drum rolls kick in. An accompanying spoken word soundtrack advocating the power of the dancefloor as an antidote to life’s problems completes the picture. This is music with a dark, relentless energy, but also passion and positivity.
‘Revolver’ has a more spacious feel with its lighter beats and hypnotic vocal loop. The addition of some fine keyboard melodies give the track a spacey, almost jazzy flavour, but it perfectly complements the driving rhythm. Both tracks confirm Kassey Voorn as an accomplished producer with a strong sense of what works on the dancefloor combined with the ability to make music with imagination and vitality. Perfect for the Flow Vinyl ethos, in other words.
