As summer fades and the nights draw in, it’s time to leave the beach behind and head for the clubs. Reflecting the changing season, Flow Records have recruited Liquid Soul from Switzerland, otherwise known as Nicola Capobianco, for their latest release. Adopting his Sleek guise, the Zurich-based producer has created an intensely atmospheric track in ‘Something’ which is built around a driving beat accompanied by array of effects and subtle touches.
Liquid Soul is a prolific artist, and as Sleek he has released music on some of the leading progressive house labels including Iboga and Baroque as well as the ‘Sleek’ EP on Flow. There’s a brooding, icy quality to ‘Something’ which fits perfectly with late night clubbing and losing yourself on a packed dancefloor.
The first remix comes from Perfect Stranger – Israeli producer Yuli Fershtat – who continues in a similar vein, but with the growling funk of a dirty techno bassline and added percussion. His remix counterbalances manic synth breakdowns with ingenious glitches and bleeps to create a deliciously dark musical adventure.
It’s over to the Netherlands for the second remix by C-Jay. Amsterdam-based producer Christian Jansen opens the track up with extra light and space. His reworking of ‘Something’ has a cleaner, fresher feel without losing any of the energy, and he gives the bassline an infectious hook as well as adding some neat keyboard melodies. Fine work all round: welcome to the night.
